Natural Cures for Smelly Feet

Some Natural Treatments for Foot Odor Problems

Since the beginning of civilization as we know it, people have been dealing with the problem of foot odor.

There are many causes for foot odor as well as many ways to prevent it. In this article we will examine some natural home remedies for your foot odor problems.

First of all the best way to prevent and reduce foot odor is to keep your feet as clean as possible by washing them in the morning and letting them dry completely before applying
foot powder and slipping on your socks. You might want to even try a hairdryer to get them good and dry in-between the toes.

Also before going to bed you should take the time to wash your feet with antibacterial soap and rinse them thoroughly and then drying them before you get into bed. These are the most simple
and inexpensive ways to combat the problem of foot odor.

The second most important thing is you selection of footwear including your socks or stockings and shoes. It’s a good idea if you have a severe problem to change your socks in the middle
or later part of the day.

Also don’t wear the same pair of shoes everyday. Let your shoes dry out for 24 hours before wearing them again.

If you are prone to heavy perspiration from your feet you need to first choose the best socks. Some professionals recommend wearing two pairs of cotton socks for people who have heavy
foot perspiration. However there is one unique brand that is good for the majority of people and their socks are not made from cotton yet they are great for helping to prevent smelly feet.

The brand is Thorlo Socks. First of all Thorlo Socks are made with acrylic fibers that are not only soft to the touch but provide an incredible amount of moisture wicking moving the moisture to the outer shoe materials where it is released into the air outside the shoe. Thorlo creates a more natural surface for your foot due to the cushioned fabric that is more natural yielding similar to walking barefoot in the grass or sand. These are not only healthy socks for your feet they are also incredibly comfortable.

Ok so don’t get confused here. The Thorlo socks that are made with a special acrylic yarn are more healthy for your feet, yet your “shoe material” should be a natural and breathable material and not plastic or synthetic material because the synthetic material would then “trap” the moisture in your shoe and against your foot so it would matter little what type of socks you wore — you would still end up with smelly feet.

Remember just because it “looks like leather” doesn’t mean it “breathes” like leather.

Foot powder is important too. You should try different brands until you find the one that works best for you. Everyone’s chemistry is a little different. It’s important to apply foot powder whenever you put on or change socks and before you go to bed at night.

Also try and look at some additional natural remedies too.

One natural product is Odor Erase. Odor Erase contains Tea Tree Oil, and Calendula Oil both of which are strong natural antifugal agents. So not only does Odor Erase help to control foot odor but it also fights the fungus that causes Athletes Foot.

If you have Athletes Foot it is a good idea to soak your feet in warm water that contains a few drops of Tea Tree Oil prior to bedtime, make sure you dry them well before going to bed.

Another low cost natural foot odor treatment can be made from tea bags.

Tea tannin is a drying agent. So boil 3 or 4 bags in 1 quart of water for about 10 minutes, and add enough cold water to make the water temperature a comfortable for soaking your feet in. Soak your feet for 20 to 30 minutes, then dry them and apply food powder. Do this twice a day until your problem subsides and then repeat twice a week thereafter to keep the odor from reoccurring.

Or you might try soaking your feet in Baking Soda. This makes the surface of the foot more acidic, thereby reducing on the amount of odor produced by your feet. To make the preparation, dissolve one tablespoon baking soda in one quart of water. Soak 2 times a week for about fifteen minutes at a time.

Another acid footbath can be made with vinegar. Use one half cup of vinegar to one quart of water. Soak for fifteen minutes two times a week.

The main thing is to get a routine and stick to it. Your final reward will be sweet smelling relaxed feet!
