Smelly Feet Foot Powders
Controlling Sweaty Feet Foot Odor With Foot Powders
Here’s how to use moisture protection to help cure smelly, sweaty feet.
Some people only suffer from foot odor in the summer while others
who’s feet perspire more can experience it year round. Regardless
it can really leave your feet smelly and uncomfortable.
Foot perspiration is one of the top causes for unpleasant smelly feet.
Excessive moisture and perspiration create a breeding ground not
only for bacteria but for yeast as well. Good socks that have absorbent
cotton padding to wick moisture away from the surface of your feet are
a good place to start. But to really combat the problem you’ll want to
investigate different types of foot powder.
Foot powder can help to fight the problem of foot odor. But where do
you start and what should you look for in a good moisture reducing
foot powder?
If you have the time in your busy schedule you can actually make
your own foot powder. Odors are absorbed by the baking soda, while the
antifugal properties of the borax reduces fungus growth and is also
deodorizing. The essential oils add a lovely scent.
INGREDIENTS
three tablespoons of baking soda
one tablespoon of borax powder
seven drops of essential oil, like clove or rosemary (that also have antibacterial properties)
1. Combine all ingredients in a glass jar and shake until thoroughly mixed. Store in a glass jar.
2. Use only a small amount of powder to feet whenever necessary. This combination powder will keep indefinitely.
Caution: Be sure to always use the best grade of pure essential oil.
On the store shelf you should look for a powder that includes aluminum potassium sulfate in an amount of around 40% by weight, zinc oxide in an amount of around 20% by weight, and zinc undecylenate in an amount of between 20% by weight. These percentages can vary but you get the basic outline of important ingredients. Some powders may also include talc, corn starch, Kaolin and/or silicone dioxide.
This combination of powders is also used in the manufacture of some footwear in ordor to eliminate bacteria and inhibit future bacterial growth that might cause odors.
Some name brands that you might watch out for are:
1) Tinactin Antifungal Foot Powder
2) Neat Feat Foot Powder
3) Gold Bond Triple Action Medicated Foot Powder
4) Dr. Scholl’s Original Foot powder.
But honestly, when it comes right down to it, the most important thing is to
try and keep your feet clean, washing them twice a day before applying the
deodorizing powder. That way you’ll reduce your chances that bacteria will
grow and increase your possibilities for sweet smelling tootsies!
